In typical operational scenarios, the fuse link ensures that the fuse tube remains tightly closed. When faults arise, the fault current swiftly melts the fuse, generating an electric arc that heats the arc-extinguishing tube, releasing substantial gas volumes and creating high pressure to elongate the arc within the tube. After melting, the moving contact loses tension, enabling the mechanism to lock and the fuse tube to drop out into an open position. For cutout load switching, operators use an insulating operating bar to pull the moving contact. Initially, the main contact remains engaged with the auxiliary static contact.
