The Drop-out Fuse and Pull Load Drop-out Fuse represent an essential component in outdoor high-voltage electrical protection systems. Installed on the high-voltage side of distribution transformers or as a supportive link in distribution lines, they act as a safeguard against transformer and line short circuits, as well as overload protection. Additionally, they facilitate the interruption and co-load current operations. Constructed with an insulating bracket and fuse tubes, the static contacts are affixed to both ends of the insulation bracket, while moving contacts are strategically placed at both ends of the fuse tube. This assembly includes an inner arc tube and an outer tube made of phenolic paper or epoxy glass cloth. The pull load drop-out fuse enhances operational versatility by featuring auxiliary contacts and an arc chute, which aid in effectively managing open and co-load current scenarios.

In standard operations, the fuse tube, under tension from the fuse itself, maintains a closed position. Upon system failure, the fault current swiftly causes the fuse to blow and generate an arc. The arc tube, ignited by this arc, releases a large volume of decomposed gas, creating high pressure within the tube and propelling a vertical wind along the pipeline. This process rapidly elongates the arc. Once the fuse blows, the moving contact releases tension, pivoting outward and triggering the locking mechanism to release the fuse tube, resulting in a break position. For load operations, an insulating rod is used to pull the moving contact. Initially, the moving and static contacts remain engaged. As pulling continues, the auxiliary contacts disengage, allowing an arc to form between them. This arc stretches within the hood slit and is extinguished by gas in the arc cover as the current reaches zero.

During regular operations, the fuse link keeps the fuse tube securely in a closed position. When faults occur, the resulting fault current promptly melts the fuse, creating an electric arc. This activates the arc-extinguishing tube, which releases a significant amount of gas, generating high pressure that blows the arc along the tube. Once the fuse link melts, the moving contact loses its tension, the mechanism locks, and the fuse tube drops, leaving the cutout in an open position. To facilitate load switching, operators use an insulating operating bar to pull the moving contact. Initially, the main and auxiliary static contacts remain engaged, but as the auxiliary contact is pulled apart, an electric arc forms and elongates within the arc-extinguishing enclosure gap. Simultaneously, the arc-extinguishing gas released extinguishes the arc when the current hits zero.
