General
The drop-out fuse and the pull load drop-out fuse are indispensable outdoor high-voltage protective devices, crucial for safeguarding the integrity of electrical systems. These fuses are strategically installed on the high-voltage side of distribution transformers or as pivotal links within distribution lines. Their primary function is to provide robust protection against transformer and line short circuits and overloads, while efficiently managing open-circuit load currents. Each fuse is meticulously crafted with an insulating bracket and fuse tubes. The static contact is securely positioned at both ends of the insulation bracket, while the moving contact is precisely mounted on the ends of the fuse tube. The construction of the fuse tube features an inner arc-resistant tube, gracefully encased by an outer phenolic paper tube or an epoxy glass cloth tube, ensuring maximum durability and performance. Furthermore, the pull load drop-out fuse is enhanced with flexible auxiliary contacts and an arc chute, optimizing operational flexibility for opening or co-load currents.
In normal operational conditions, the drop-out fuse maintains a closed position, with the fuse tube and fuse under precise tension. However, when a system failure occurs, the fault current swiftly melts the fuse, producing a formidable arc. The intense heat of the arc activates the arc tube, releasing substantial volumes of gas, thereby generating high pressure within the tube. This creates a vertical wind along the pipeline, expertly stretching and elongating the arc. Once the fuse blows, the moving contact loses tension, triggering a meticulously designed locking mechanism that releases the fuse tube, causing it to drop into the breaking position. To facilitate load pulling, an insulating rod is utilized to skillfully disengage the moving contact, which initially maintains contact with the static contact. Continued pulling with the insulating rod results in the separation of the auxiliary contacts. Consequently, an arc forms and elongates within the hood slit, while the gas within the arc cover efficiently extinguishes the arc when the current reaches zero.

The drop-out fuse cutout is composed of durable insulator supports and a robust fuse tube, with static contacts firmly secured on both sides of the insulator support and moving contacts skillfully installed at the ends of the fuse tube. The sophisticated architecture of the fuse tube features an inner arc-extinguishing tube, elegantly encased by an outer phenolic compound paper tube or epoxy glass tube, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. Additionally, the load switching fuse cutout is equipped with reinforced elastic auxiliary contacts and a state-of-the-art arc-extinguishing enclosure to efficiently manage on-off loading current.
Under standard operating conditions, the fuse link ensures that the fuse tube is securely locked in a closed position. When system faults arise, the fault current rapidly melts the fuse, creating an electric arc that heats the arc-extinguishing tube and releases substantial gas, generating high pressure that drives the arc along the tube. As the fuse link melts, the moving contact loses its tension, activating the locking mechanism and causing the fuse tube to drop out, transitioning the cutout to an open position. To effectively switch off during cutout loading, operators utilize an insulating operating bar to disengage the moving contact. Initially, the main contact and auxiliary static contact remain engaged, but further pulling results in the disengagement of the auxiliary contacts, generating a dynamic electric arc that elongates within the arc-extinguishing enclosure gap. Simultaneously, the arc-extinguishing mechanism releases gas to efficiently extinguish the arc as the current passes zero, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
