Under normal circumstances, the drop-out fuse remains securely locked in a closed position, with the fuse tube expertly tensioned. Upon system fault detection, the fault current operates swiftly, blowing the fuse and initiating an arc. This robust arc ignites the arc tube, decomposing voluminous gas and creating high pressure within to craft a vertical wind path that skillfully elongates the arc. As the fuse blows, the moving contact releases and rotates gracefully outward, while the locking mechanism disengages, allowing the fuse tube to drop gracefully, achieving a decisive breaking position. For load pulling, an insulating rod is used to extract the moving contact while maintaining its connection to the static contact. With continuous force, auxiliary contacts separate, creating an arc that expands within the hood slit. The arc cover effectively contains the gas, facilitating efficient arc extinction as the current reaches zero.

In cases where detailed definitions are lacking, modifications are made following the JB/DQ2139-1986 interim technology requirements for 10 to 35KV outdoor high voltage drop fuses.
The Drop-out Fuse Cutout and Load Switching Fuse Cutout represent the height of high-performance outdoor high-voltage protective devices. Expertly designed to interface with the incoming feeder of distribution transformers or lines, they are crucial in protecting transformers and lines from short circuit events and overload conditions while proficiently managing the on/off load current. The drop-out fuse cutout comprises sturdy insulating supports and a fuse tube, with static contacts strategically positioned on both sides and moving contacts skillfully attached at the ends of the fuse tube. The fuse tube incorporates an advanced internal arc-extinguishing tube, complemented by an outer phenolic compound paper tube or epoxy glass tube. The load switching fuse cutout features high-performance, elastic auxiliary contacts and an arc-extinguishing enclosure for efficient on/off load current switching.
In regular operational conditions, the fuse link ensures the fuse tube remains tightly secured. When faults occur, the fault current rapidly melts the fuse, creating an electric arc that heats the arc-extinguishing tube, releasing abundant gas and generating high pressure to elongate the arc within the tube. Once melted, the moving contact loses tension, allowing the mechanism to lock and the fuse tube to gracefully drop out, transitioning to an open state. For cutout load switching, operators deftly employ an insulating operating rod to draw out the moving contact. Initially, the main contact remains engaged with the auxiliary static contact. As the auxiliary contact is further pulled, an electric arc forms between them, extending within the arc-extinguishing enclosure gap. Simultaneously, the arc-extinguishing mechanism expels gas to efficiently extinguish the arc as the current passes through zero.
