In normal operations, the drop-out fuse remains firmly latched in a closed state, with the fuse tube under exact tension. Upon detecting system faults, the fault current swiftly blows the fuse, creating an arc that ignites the arc tube. This process generates a significant volume of gas, building high pressure within the tube to skillfully elongate and stretch the arc, creating a vertical wind path. Once the fuse blows, the moving contact releases, executing a graceful outward rotation as the locking mechanism disengages, allowing the fuse tube to drop to a distinct breaking position. For load pulling, an insulating rod is used to draw out the moving contact while maintaining a connection with the static contact. Continuous force application separates the auxiliary contacts, generating an arc that extends within the hood slit. The arc cover efficiently contains the gas, allowing for effective arc extinguishment as the current nears zero.

The Drop-out Fuse Cutout and Load Switching Fuse Cutout represent the zenith of high-performance outdoor high-voltage protective devices. Ingeniously designed, they connect with the incoming feeder of distribution transformers or lines, playing a vital role in shielding transformers and lines from short circuit events and overload conditions, while adeptly managing on/off load current. The drop-out fuse cutout comprises resilient insulating supports and a fuse tube, with static contacts strategically fixed on either side and moving contacts skillfully attached at the ends. The fuse tube boasts a sophisticated internal arc-extinguishing tube, enhanced by an outer phenolic compound paper tube or epoxy glass tube. The load switching fuse cutout also includes high-performance, elastic auxiliary contacts, and an arc-extinguishing enclosure for efficient on-off load current transition.
In typical operation, the fuse link ensures the fuse tube is tightly secured in a closed position. When faults arise, the fault current rapidly dissolves the fuse, creating an electric arc that activates the arc-extinguishing tube, releasing substantial gas volumes and generating high pressure to elongate the arc within the tube. Once dissolved, the moving contact loses tension, allowing the mechanism to lock and the fuse tube to descend gracefully to an open position. For cutout load switching, operators skillfully employ an insulating operating bar to draw the moving contact. Initially, the main contact remains engaged with the auxiliary static contact. As the auxiliary contact is further drawn, an electric arc forms between them, extending within the arc-extinguishing enclosure gap. Concurrently, the arc-extinguishing mechanism expels gas to efficiently extinguish the arc when the current reaches zero.
